Easter Eggs created by Carl Fabergé, for the Tzars of Russia caused the Fabergé name to become the world-famous. He was renowned for his enamel, jeweled and gold creations.

Fabergé proposed to the Emperor Alexander III (circa1885) that he should create a jewelry egg with a surprise inside it as an Easter gift for the Empress , the Tzar was excited and wanted to know the contents, but Fabergé kept the secret; and an egg, containing a series of "surprises" wrought in gold and platinum, precious gems and enamel. The Tzar was so pleased that he gave a standing order for an egg every EasteR. Fabergé was given freedom to create with the understanding that each egg must contain a surprise inside.
Fabergé creates many items of gold and enamel jewelry today. The Faberge Company, originally of St. Petersburg, now has offices in London, Paris, and New York.
